Copyright in the forum footer, really required?

I just installed phpnuke along with chatservs patches but the copyright notice is like a paragraph long and very distracting.

It currently says:

Am i allowed to shorten or remove this?

Authors should get credit and there are GPL guidelines and absolutes. Try setting up a page/block where you list all of your credits and then replace that 'paragraph' with a "Credits" link.

They should have made that forum copyright in to a pop up window. I agree that thing is huge and unsightly.

To be honest that part needs editing, some of us know what i mean, as for the credits you can place most of it in a popup window or similar method, the one line that is required to stay there per phpbb group's guidelines is:

which file contains the footer information?

I want to put it all in a popup, but not sure how to take it out the footer.
