I see the release has depreciated themes in them which are basicly the old themes. I have hacked DeepBlue multiple times in various sites with great success. So far everything has beeen fairly straight forward to figure out with a little homework.
I am wondering if these old themes DeepBlue in particualr will continue to function as things eveolve wit |

They are generally still ok for use in RN 2.5, but may be missing some block styling tweaks that are detailed here:

As for our next major release, there will be changes required but can't really say exactly what, as things are still taking shape. The edits required shouldn't be too difficult.
They were moved out of the distro to decrease our workload and eventually make way for more recent themes. |

RN doesn't come with any deprecated themes so I might be missing your point here. All the themes that come with RN validate to the required standards we have set; currently xHTML 1.0 Transitional.
If you were trying to say that some of the themes are visually old, I would have to agree, especially with regard to DeepBlue. The problem is, the majority of the RN Team consists of web developers and not web designers, so there isn't really much time left over for the visual side, though a few kind people have provided CSS driven themes, which are much better.
If you want to write some themes, I'm sure the community would love to try them out and give you feedback. |

We moved several themes out of the html folder and into a "Deprecated" folder that is still in the release. Not sure if it will be removed altogether from our next major release, but it could be.
One other note about using old themes, you will eventually need to convert them to validate for html5, which may be more work than any changes required by RN's theme system. While you will still be able to run in XHTML, there will be some areas of the RN core that will likely need to start using html5 attributes; in order for us to move forward. I imagine for the most part it would be minor issues with validation warnings for invalid attributes; but hard to say at this point.
Ideally, there will be some more modern themes to base a theme from, than DeepBlue. |
