I'm looking for a block that can show upcoming events... It could be something simillar to Ephemerids Block, but Ephemerids Block only shows an Event from today... I want it to show lets say... ten nearest future events... Is there such block... Or maybe someone can write a hack to the ephemerids block... or point me into the right direction... |

BigBoy177,
Just a thought from a new phpNuke user... not sure if this idea would fit your situation or not.
Could you possibly use a modified ShoutBox block? You can turn off the Date and Time on the Shout using the ShoutBox Admin panel. This would still allow others to post also, but I'm sure the ShoutBox block could be hacked to only allow an Admin post a new message. You could then put up your upcoming events manually, and delete them when they have expired. |

Speaking of shoutbox, has anyone heard of anyone successfully using two shoutblocks? One for the users, and one just for admin? I think it would be a very cool admin tool, a place to post about site changes and such. |

I had a similar thought, but have not had the time to test this. The blocks would have to be differenly named in the Blocks folder (like block-Shout_Box, and block-Shout_Admin). I also think the Admin panel would have to have two differently named entries (and right now I cannot remember when these files reside). This way you could control both boxes seperately. Also when setting up the Admin block, of course you would set it so only admins had rights to view it. I will have to take a look at this when I get home.

I think there would have to be some adjustments made to the javascript too. Javascripts using the same variables don't like to play on the same page. I have a javascript countdown block I like to use occasionally. Works great as a side-block, as long as I'm not viewing the homepage where the shoutblock is top-center. |

I'll be the first to admin, I will certainly need to learn a lot more about phpNuke before I will be ready to attempt rewriting something like ShoutBox. I've spent a little time looking stuff over, and I'm baffled. I tried modifying the javascript, and the phpnuke code to rename the variables. Even created new tables in MySQL, and did get the box to show up, but it never worked. But I gave it a good old Geeky try. I might revisit it again sometime though. |
