Yes, that is Guardian's site. You will see there the new RavenCMS 3.0. I think the site is still under work. |

He had our current build up for a few days, but has changed it since then. Not sure that he is using it now, although themes have much more control over appearance than before so it's possible. The News/Forums sections look like his RN 2.5 site. |

Wow you guys were quick to spot that
Yes, I had a pre-release version of RavenCMS public for a few days because I wanted to test a few things that could only be done on a live site; how quickly I could get it indexed with Google and what the actual server memory load was like.
I had good results actually considering RavenCMS is almost a complete re-write and much more advanced in a lot of area's.
If I can get another 12 Likes https://www.facebook.com/RavenCMS I might be persuaded to make it public again so you can see how responsive the new themes are by making your browser window smaller or even looking at the page source code ![Smile](modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

To be honest i getting a little impatient.
I expected to read as a RN user what this version will actually include.
For example: will it contain a News module?
Can you delete the news module or any other module.
What modules will be included?
Will there still be a forum?
Ifso, what forum.
Will the your account section still hold the forum fields?
How you build a theme for it?
Will the old functions or its names stil be used (storyshome blocks side, etc etc)?
There is so many to ask, but i really mis the interaction while developing this version with it's community users.
I truly think you missing this important point. |

wHiTeHaT, I think these are all great points and appreciated. We have recently started to post to FB/Twitter quite a bit and will continue to do so. You can get a sense of the roadmap starting from the original post. |

wHiTeHaT - my meaning was that we don't release Alpha quality code, may apologies for the confusion.
To answer your quations as best I can;
Quote: | will it contain a News module? |
Yes, a News module will be included in the core distribution and will have some extra features.
Quote: | Can you delete the news module or any other module. |
Adding and removing modules will work almost the same as it does now. However, I am working on a personal project for my own modules that will allow seperate database table creation/deletion, which I hope to extend to include some of the RavenCMS core modules after it is officially released. This module will be available for free and is primariliry to save webmasters the hassle of using pnpmyadmin or similar tools.
Quote: | What modules will be included? Will there still be a forum? Ifso, what forum. |
Pretty much all the RavenNuke core modules will be included EXCEPT;
AvantGo (to be deleted)
rwsMetAuthors (may be deleted as it provides duplicate data)
BackUp DB (it has never handled large databases so it will be removed OR re-written)
User Groups / Ponits - MIGHT get moved from being an independant module to being part of Your Account
IP Ban (most likely will be removed as it has duplicate functionality to Sentinel).
Yes the core distribution will have a Forum and we are retaining the phpBB 2.x (for now). However our new themes will have heavily modified forum files to ensure maximum compatibility with the new (HTML5) themes and are likely to include big changes to the functions available for posting.
How you build a theme for it? Will the old functions or its names stil be used (storyshome blocks side, etc etc)?
Pretty much the same as you do now BUT some of the core theme/news display functions have moved - they are no longer in mainfile or header.php. This is to give greater flexibility so the theme itself has more control over the presentation. Our new themes will all use Bootstrap 3.x so theme and module developers will have a fantastic pallet of GUI / presentational stuff they can use without having to start adding files all over the place.
I will try and get a few more screenshots down over the weekend and put them on our Facebook page.
Speaking of themes (hope you are sitting down) you can select a different 'default' theme for registered users and non-registered users AND we now have a seperate administration theme to allow us to add additional things to the admin area later on, such as widgets. |

Because we dig into code or even change it to our needs (without asking HOW TO) .
We not just install something and take it for granted we like to know what we're doing.
We contribute.

If you put something to the GIT , it does not mean to consider it as a release.
You could see it as a project on work.
Developers can contribute to the GIT.
It is not i want to keep nagging on this, i only want to explain you missing the chance to let your community involve into the project.
Once it is released theres no easy way back.
My idea of when start a project this big is that you build up a core.
The current idea i have now is that what you have build not represents a main core.
What happens if i would delete the Forum module and go in to Your_Account.
Or what happen if i delete/rename Your_Account if i goto the Forum module?
When answering the above last 2 questions i know enough. |

Everything should still work fine if you remove the Forums module and go to Your_Account.
You won't be able to delete or rename Your_Account at the moment because it is a core module and changing the name would also require changing the url re-writing in htaccess if you are using Shortlinks.
Whilst it is possible for someone like yourself who has a good knowledge of PHP to rename Your_Account (use a CONSTANT for the module name and refactor the code to use it) we are trying to ensure that end users do not need to edit files once installation is complete, so this type of change will have to wait until we have developed a "link factory", which we simply don't have time to do for the initial release.
The reason RavenCMS will not appear on Github is because we will probably be changing the license and moving away from GPL, which we can legally do because the "engine" will no longer have any phpNuke code (not that I personally believe phpNuke was ever legally GPL in the first place) - the database abstraction layer is different, the way themes work is different, the filtering and data validation is different etc etc.
We have however tried to keep file and directory structure similar and have retained as many of the old function names as possible for backward compatibility BUT we have not retained backward compatibility for the sake of having it. This is a NEW CMS and will be a new starting point to take advantage of all the latest technology like CSS3, PHP 5.3+, MySQLi etc.
Since I have touched on a possible license change, I should clarify that such a change has not yet been confirmed and would be purely to give third party code developers (modules, blocks, themes, administration themes etc) legal protection for their work. |
