Well I am back. after heart attack and all that good stuff, today I figured I had time to kill so bought a domain and grabbed a server.

Server Debian 10, php 7.3 mariadb 10.3

What I notice is some sections of admin pages will just display the dreaded blank white page. noticed this with Messages News Preferences
on regular side of the site, Forums will show cat view however if you click a cat or forum you get the blank white page.

I am guessing it has to do with advanced editor however I can't say for 100%, in rnconfig if adv-edit= 1 things like Messages,News,Prefs will show until it gets to the textbox which uses the adv edit. with adv edit off. things get screwy.

With adv-edit=0
Prefs work as expected
News works as expected
Messages 50%, you get to the message create page, however when you attempt to submit to enable it, blank white page.

Forums I can view main forum page, mem list, priv messages, search and faqs. but click on forum cat and white page. not sure if that is related to the adv-edit.

Little bit of an update. got forums to work, thinking I was missing a php-mod not sure which one. so now forums work but however show this error.

Warning: ob_start(): output handler 'ob_gzhandler' cannot be used twice in /home/xxxxx/www/modules/Forums/includes/page_header.php on line 58

Wondering if maybe I am missing some other php mods.

kd8hho, maybe this helps: [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

If not, then it sounds like you have misconfigured some things on your box because RPS is running also on debian with php7.3 and mariadb but there are any issues like that. Also I never noticed this behaivour on my local environment. I would suggest you to install the package on a local WAMP or XAMPP and check it there. With a regular LAMP configuration you should get it to work.

Ah the url seemed to fix the issues, strange how that one little setting was disruptive of so many other things.

I knew it had to be an error in something, i was actually scratching me head trying to figure out if i was missing some php module lol. Still got other things to try and fix (non RN related) getting the forced https non www redirects to work.

Also is there a theme converting guide somewhere? I found in one of my old backups the nukecode blackout theme, loved that theme however it is very unlikely to work with RN considering all the changes in the last decade.

Do not use nuke-sentinel to force a https-nukeurl. Add the https-url only into the preferences in the admin-section. After that you can add redirects in the apache2 virtual-host configs for your domain. I have a redirect from the virtual-host for port 80 and a 2nd redirect from a non-www virtual-host for port 443 to another virtual-host for port 443 which is forced to -www-. So I don't need to change the htacess-file and can handle it only with the apache2.

Not really. you have to compare the theme-files with a working theme from the core-package or someone here on RPS has the time for converting the theme for you.

the force https is where I am bombing.

I can get all http to redir to [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ] but [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ] won't redir to non-www no matter what code I throw at it. I have tried both apache conf edits in virt host and htaccess.

as for theme, I manage to get blackout to "work" but it is missing a lot of stuff. think that is going to be a long process lol. I know for sure forums edits are going to be needed to add in the attachments and extra bbcodes. of course the theme code itself needs to be cleaned up to more modern standards
