This would imply that you haven't reset the avatars in the user tables. Read the thread for how to do that. This fix is best used BEFORE any avatars have been saved, i.e. a fresh install. As I said in the thread, if you have already done some attempted fixes, which you or someone must have or you wouldn't be getting the multiple gallery folders, you will eed to delete the avatars in the profile and reselect them.

Reread the thread carefully on the first page and I explain what you must do if it is not a fresh install.

Its an update from 6.5 to 6.8

But I believe something is messed up, cause when I try to access the "Profile" from forum I get an empty page middle.

Well I better do a fresh test install to see if I can get it all to work. Thanks for the help anyway.

I tried to apply ur fix to my forum, Raven, but it seemes i have done something wrong. Now I have many problems I didn't have before... Sad
The question is the following: how may i reset the phpbb forum db and then reapply ur fix? I don't have any users yet, except my user (through which I made several trials), so it won't hurt anything.
TNX in advance...

I will assume you did the first step I explained:
Quote:
First of all BACKUP your users table and your Your_Account/index.php file!!!!

So, just restore the file Your_Account/index.php. That is the only file that you changed so restoring it will put you back where you were.

Ok, Raven. I'll try to make myself clear. Sorry for my english, but I am from Rome/Italy... I'll do my best!
I only had one user, myself. I made several posts (logged, obviously) in order to try the forum. And I also tried to post as an anonymous user.
After having the problems mantioned above, I substituted the modified your_account.php with the original one.
After that I deleted my user. The forum indicates that there is one topic and 2 posts but I cannot visualize them anymore...
That is why I asked u how to "clean" the forum db... Wink

Deleting the user is what has caused the problem. Just recreate the user and assign the user_id number the same as the poster_id in the forum. You will have to use phpMyAdmin to see the poster_id and update the user_id column. Does that make sense?

The user id seems to be -1
Is this possible? The actual user id is 12. Shall I put -1 instead of 12?

I applied your fix and now people get the red x even if they have not uploaded an avatar.

Uploaded avatars work just fine.

Please reread this thread, especially the first page as to what you might need to do to fix your database table. This is not just for uploaded avatars, it's for selected avatars from the gallery too.

Ok, I did the database fix. People who have signed up AFTER the fix are still getting the red x even if they did not try and do an avatar upload.

Also, the red x is showing up in the your account/your info area.

While there very well could be something else needed in my fix, the fix has worked here and at all other sites who have tried it, as far as I know. You probably have, but I will suggest it just in case, make sure that you have followed my instructions exactly. When you right mouse click over the red x and select properties, what path is it trying to find?

The URL of my website and no spacific directories.

My web site is www.phenylshouse.com.

There is one post in in the general forum right now. The person that signed up for that account did so after this fix. He has a red x for his avatar and when I right click and click properties I get www.phenylshouse.com as the URL.

Under your account/your info the avatar path come us as the following.

http://www.phenylshouse.com/modules/Forums/images/avatars/Array%20[user_avatar]

I had 'Enable gallery avatars' set to 'no' so the forum avatar problem is now fixed.

As far as 'your account' avatar that is still showing up as red x.

After reading all 4 pages of this, I came to the conculsion, that I'm really confused after reading this, let me explain..I'm running nuke 6.9 with phpBB 2.0.6 downloaded from this site, works great, but the guest avatar is bugging me, here is what i did so far, when a member registers and doesn't not select a avatar he get the blank.gif the one i put in there as a defualt, on my top forum poster block, Anonymous has the same defualt avatar so that is fixed, but when a guest posts on the forums, that red x appears, i cant believe fb did not fix this problem through nuke 6.0 to 7.0 geez. Are these 4 pages related to my problem or is this for a different avatar problem? before i make the fixes Raven described in his first post, do i have to change the path to anonoymous avatar in the nuke authors table? or do i follow ravens instructions in the first post?, or is this whole topic for a different problem? Shocked

18-Delta found that he had everything working with my fix except one line that he changed back. Hopefully he'll read this and can add some help.

All the avatar related aspects of my site are functioning excellent. But I need to make one thing clear to all that read this. I am not a programmer. I simply look at code and play with it until it works right. Please do not post code and ask me what's wrong with it, I will not be able to tell you. With that said, lets get into this.

PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION

The red x avatar (blank.gif) would show up in user accounts in the YOUR ACCOUNT AREA and FORUMS.

MY SPECIFIC OBSERVATION

Quote:
Ok I played with it and i narrowed it down Specifically to what its doing from a users point of view.

I go into "your info" and select an avatar from the drop-down list. I hit "SAVE CHANGES" at the bottom and it refreshes back to the "Your Account" screen and the avatar is visible. right click the avatar, select "properties" and its path is ......modules/Forums/images/avatars/gallery/xxavatarxx.gif (xxavatarxx.gif=any avatar file)

OK, everything is fine at this point. BUT if you go back into "Your Info" and change ANY setting (i.e. hide status etc..) OR simply hit the "Save Changes" button, when it refreshes the red X avatar shows up. You right click properties and its path is now.............modules/Forums/images/avatars/gallery/gallery/avatar.gif

Additionally if you just keep going back into "Your Info" and hitting the save change button, it adds another "/gallery" everytime.

I did this like six times out of curiosity when i right-clicked and viewed its properties after doing this its path was similar to this
.............modules/Forums/images/avatars/gallery/gallery/gallery/gallery/gallery/gallery/gallery/avatar.gif

an added /galleryfor everytime i hit the Save Changes button.

(to clarify, when i say "refresh" i mean the -Your Info- screen redirecting back to the -Your Account- screen. its the avatar on the Your Account screen i'm refering to, it effects the little one in Your info as well.)

FIX THAT WORKED FOR ME

The following is the README file included with this download.

Quote:
This file goes in

modules/Your_Account/

Backup your original "modules/Your_Account/index.php" file

Make sure both your paths in the FROUM configuration are "modules/Forums/images/avatars" (case sensitive!!, look at the "F" in forums)

NOTE: i run phpNuke 6.9 ported 2.0.5 and it works fine for me. If you install under
other circumstances that is on you.

SECONDLY: I have my avatars loaded in "modules/Forums/images/avatars/" AND "modules/Forums/images/avatars/gallery/"
there are certain places in Nuke that draw them from both places so instead of hunting the code i have my avatars in these
two places. I realize this might be a "cheap" way to do this but it works without a hitch. I am not a programmer and this is my work-a-round
until a programmer figures this whole thing out.

SUMMARY

This is what worked for me and might not work for everyone. Until this whole avatar thing gets settled once and for all this work-a round has worked great for me. I tried to pull up both the original and moded versions of this file to try and figure out what exactly i did to fix it in the code but i simply got confused and am posting my index.php file. Hopefully a programmer will go through it and be able to see what I did.

here is the file Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login!

good luck and let me know if it works for you.

NOTE: you and your users might have to reselect your avatar after installing this file!
