272mb, it's a hefty one.
The built in pop up blocker is quite nice, it seems to be blocking windows that zone alarm pop up blocker never could.

I have been using Service Pack 2 since one of the earlier Betas. I think Microsoft actually got it close to right this time.

I avoided the beta versions like the plague.

I'm not too impressed with about 6 new processes running in the background after updating to sp2 I have to admit.

I think that Service Pack2 for lone computers will be smaller.

That download is for multiple computers on a network, not for one stand alone computer.

Wonder when the other service pack will be released.

I too like the pop up blocker, now if we could just stop the ads that slide across the page and force you to click on the X or Close button to close them!

I think the only way to stop them is to uninstall flash.
Theres no reason why you cant install the full patch on 1 machine, MS want you to download the smaller pack to save their bandwidth.

If you run StyleXP, be sure to download the updated DLL prior to upgrading.....and if you are interested in making a slipstreamed SP2 install CD, check out Neowin.net, they have very comprehensive and easy to follow instructions!

Yeah, I had to download the new style xp after I rebooted from sp2, found out I had a stone age looking desktop. Laughing

Side note: Your site is pctoolbin? I noticed a few referrals slipping thru to my site from a post in your forum, I tried to check out the post to be nosey but it was for a special usergroup. Neutral

Some people ended up saying it loaded too slow for them, but I told them to shut up. (just kidding).....I told them to register and check out your 56k friendly version.....it was as a result of wanting to get a custom theme made for our site, but of course, I cannot afford anything as I am doing what I am doing for nothing as it is.....maybe someday.....

That theme is a huge bandwidth hog, all the 56k guests complain about it. Laughing

I'm currently working on a new theme for the site, it's going to be hard topping the last one, but I'm giving it a good go. Going to try and make it a lot more modem friendly and if all goes well start selling it. Smile

All I have to say is I hate XP Sad

The stupid things never boots on the first try .... stupid thing always reboots about 6 times and then decides to work Sad

Maybe the service pack will help.

I was stuck on Windows 2k for ages, but now I've got used to XP Pro I like it. Seems pretty stable and I dont have to keep going thru scan disk everytime the power goes off here like I did with 2k.

I remember DOS3.0 to 7.0, Windows 3.0, 3.1, 95 (a, b, os2.0), 98 (se), and now I'm deal with this XP Home. I think I have a bad install, but just haven't fixed it.

My laptop has XP Pro on it and it runs just fine. Makes wireless networking a snap.

BTW. I still have all my software and all my old systems. They are fun to dust off and tinker with. Aww the good old days when 64Kb of Memory with a 9600 Baud modem was the bomb. Laughing

I've heard bad things about XP Home which is why I got XP Pro

Talking of old operating systems, many years ago I worked for a guy who was writing the users manual for Wordstar, that was a dos wordprocessing package.

rofl just remembered, one day he came leaping into the office saying he'd just bought this enormous latest state of the art hard drive

I liked Wordstar, but most of the companies over here stopped using it because they said it was too difficult for people to use... hello? rofl

I was so proud the day I got my BBC Acorn computer with double density double sided floppy discs rofl

In 1977 or 78, my dad bought the third Radio Shack Model 1 Level 1 computer sold in the state of Indiana. It had a monochrome monitor (13 inch), 16 K of ram, and a tape drive. Oh the joys of typing, and typing, and typing, and typing some more, just to enter a simple program.

Well, my kids play a "Lemonade Stand" type game on NickJr or Nickelodeon.com.....but here ya go:

As for Windows XP.......I personally think it's the best, most stable OS Microsoft has put out since DOS. Usually I find people who don't like it either have incompatible hardware, driver issues, or are unfamiliar with the OS and thus it turns them off.....not all the time, but that's been *MY* experience.

My most hated OS is Windows ME. It's the only OS Microsoft never released an official Service Pack for.....it's the only OS I have paid money for......and personally, I felt WinME was WinXP beta released to a hungry retail world....but never should have been.

Your mileage may vary.

bought my TRS-80 level1 with 4k in 77, quickly upgraded to the powerfull level 2 rom and 16k the max you could get with out the expansion interface.

That was my fist computer to over clock, cranked that puppy up to about 2,5 KiloHertz Very Happy

Oh I remember fondly the joys of fastforwerding the tapedrive. I think everyone learned the trick if you just barly holding down the FF key you could here the high pitched wine of the program stored on tape and lissten for the breaks is the sound to find the program you wanted.

The glorious 128 x 64 resolotion of the color graphics, Yep color black and white, and was darn glad to have them.

Well, I do remember this, but mine was with my Atari 800XL and it's tape drive. Copying games was so easy back then but I remember it taking forever to load a program or game from the tape. My brother and I would wait 30 mins only to find out that there was an error on loading....*sigh*....*rewinds tape*

I think that's the same as we had over here but it was marketed as a Sinclair ZX I maybe wrong, but it looks like it lol
