I'd answer that question with another question: should bottle-feeding a baby in public be illegal? Why should breast-fed babies and their moms be treated any differently?

I prefer woman use a moderate amount of discretion. A blanket draped or a peek a boo boobie shirt ect...

But I'm totally against laws governing when and where it is appropriate or not. If people can't figure that out I'll be sure to let them know if its in my home or place of business ect...

I've been around both the whip it out where ever in front of who ever moms and the other extreme go to a private room first types and everything in between.

Frankly I think the ones who "whip it out" are looking for a reaction of some sort. But thats just my opinion. I don't see many who think of it as a liberated woman thing at all. In fact most who I've encountered of this type were more the funky little hippy wanna B's but I was born 20 years to late sort.

Reaction? From whom? the sicko perverts ogling a mom while she nurses her baby? Or could it be that the mom is more concerned about her baby (who has a stomach the size of its fist) that needs to be fed every couple of hours?

You're comparing breastfeeding a baby to sex in public? Is there no difference between the two?

I think you said it best yourself oprime2001, sick pervs are a reality and all they need is the smallest of what they see as being provoked to attack a woman, on the flip side a hungry baby is not capable of understanding about things like this and when feed time comes it can't wait long although in some cases it only takes an extra second or two for the lady to either position herself away from everyone's view or cover up a bit. Either way the baby should be the main concern, as for men being able to go around without a shirt while women can't, both won't get the same reaction and in this case i am not talking about breast feeding.

Personally speaking, having spent 6 years in Europe, I feel we, as a whole, as Americans, are too prudish. Yes, breast feeding is "natural" and so is "sex", but one is sexual in nature and the other isn't. It's only society that places the breasts as sexual objects not nature.....if a man looks upon a woman breast feeding and gets embarrassed or is offended, then it's my opinion the problem lies with the man, not the woman. Avert your eyes, look away.....it's called self control....a baby cannot choose to control when it's going to be hungry. I am not saying a woman will be taking her top off completely, but why the need to cover up? For the sake of those who might be offended? Sheesh.....what and why the offense *IS* needs to be re-examined. What is the woman or baby doing wrong? What's more "offensive"? A woman breast feeding in public? Or a woman who would walk around in public wearing suggestive clothing showing more skin than the woman breast feeding, but all the while, clothed? America really needs to get it's moral compass in order IMO.....breasts are only objects of sexual desire to those with the desire and impulse to see them as such....and a society who places such desire on them.....to me, the "fix" needs to be on society's problem of acceptance of other things and non-acceptance of that, and not whether or not the woman should be allowed to breast feed in public....

My 2 cents...

You can't help but notice a woman breast feeding in public. You are going to do a double take. It doesn't mean I am going to be sexually excited or offended. I am just saying it will draw attention.

My wife breast feed two of our children and she never had to feed in public. Sitting in the middle of the park breast feeding a child is unusual. I'm not saying it is right or wrong because it doesn't bother me at all.

I don't think the government should get involved at all. We need a lot less of them than we get now.

OffTopic Oh My TE ... I thought you was a girl. Talk about reading more into a post then what's really there LOL Don’t ask me why. Going back and reading your posts, they are not over feminine or anything like that.

But I have to agree. I breast feed my son, and NEVER did in public. Same with my mom, grandmother and so on. There is absolutely NO reason to. Every time you kid screams you don't have to react instantly. Waiting 5 min to find a nice peaceful place isn't going to kill either person. I think the human body is one of the most beautiful things on the earth. That doesn’t mean I want to see it while shopping, running in the park or at a restaurant.

I guess my moral compass is still stuck in the 40's. You don't have sex, pee, poo, fart, belch, shower/bath, scratch or adjust ‘down there’, or breast feed in public. Anything that has to do with ANY body function is a private thing. Women don’t bare it all in clothing styles. Men wear suits when going to a nice restaurant. I still look down on teens that are pregnant. I look down on women that have more kids so their welfare check amount will increase. I don't want to see men locking lips in public, don't care if they do it in their bedroom ... that's none of my business. But in public it becomes my business. I don't want to see women running around in floss and Band-Aids that they call a shirt. I think six has it right, I think people do these things for shock value. Do we really want Jerry Springer live on our streets?

It's a shame that laws like have to be made, but people have lost their tact. So laws have to be made to remind them. People just don't know how to act in polite society. Yes my views are antiquated when it comes to how to act in public. But I don't care. Now day’s people teach their kids it's ok to step in front of cars, you or your surviving family can sue them. People don’t spank their kids enough! I’m not talking about child abuse, but discipline. Also people don’t know how to administer discipline, that’s why we can’t do it anymore. The one I always laughed at was the parent hitting the kid while yelling at them not to hit. Daa folks! People don't raise their kids anymore, and society is suffering. We are turning into a bunch of it’s not my responsibility, satisfy me now, slobs!

I voted yes.

If women can't organise their shopping trips between feeds like they did in my mother's day, now they have more time with machines to do most of the housework for them, which my mother never had, then there's something wrong.

Especially with the amount of pervs around these days.

I find it distasteful, I'm not in America, but in the UK so I wouldnt know if Americans are too prudish or not lol

Off topic but on topic kind of, I also can't stand mothers that let their kids pee by the side of their parked car, or anywhere else they think fit in public or on the beach.

You can get fined for letting your dog pooh in the gutter or on the beach, but not your child!!!

Rant over
