IPowerweb and offsite content

I have several nuke sites at my domain and curiously, all went down at same time. Now since I rarely work on em all the same day this was strange. However, I found when I disabled any blocks that drew from off site content, each site began working again.

Now I know many would say, "get a new host." This is out of the question at the moment and I am wondering if anyone could explain what might have been done at the server level that would cause blocks like rss newsfeeds, gameserver querys, or weather harvest from functioning.........

Is it possible that your host was recompiling PHP? The reason I ask is that the RSS engine in Nuke uses socket-to-socket connections and it is possible that they recompiled PHP and failed to use the --enable-sockets directive, later realized their error, and recompiled (yet again). Other than that I can't imagine what would have affected an entire server.

I am not sure if this can help but when I was with ipower and Raven you may remember this but they have a severe limit on queries. I hassled with them about this forever and finally went to ravenwebhosting *plug*. Anyway, is it possible it is a query limit problem?

Ipower contacted me and said they had "restarted the apache web server." This seems to have corrected the problem..........for now.

- That would indicate to me that there was [probably] a change in PHP and it won't/didn't take effect until they bounce the server. Do a phpinfo() and check the PHP Build Date.
