how does php reads 0

i am running php with mysql as my database, here is my problem. When i try to report a game score and one team has 0 , my script will record the 0 into the database but when i try to read it and compare it to a number it doesn't seem to know that the 0 is there, sortive returns a null field. But if i go to the database and edit the record without doing anything to the field and save it then my script will read the 0 fine. Anyone have any idea how to fix this problem, thanks.

post the code you're using to store the score in the database and code to retrieve it + comapare it to another number
