There is an effort to propose a national sales tax in place of federal income tax. I think the idea sounds very good to many people on the surface but...
Am I the only one who sees this as being a racketeers dream come true?
Does this not just ring of opportunity for expanding into the realm of domestic products? |

I have always been in favor of a flat tax, myself. |

Count me in with the flat tax. I think it is the only fair way. I also think that the social security tax is backwards. They tax on the first $72,000, then not a penny more. It should start at 72,000 and be infinite. |

I agree with a "flat tax" as well......
(but off-topic: what I find funny is that the Political forum has had one post/thread since the US Elections.....now either people are content or feeling defeated....and so there's nothing more to comment on?!? C'mon people.....do we need to wage war somewhere to get you folks talking again? **smirk**) |

Flat tax and National Sales tax are 2 seperate issues I think. The National Sales tax is a pitch to the working class that gives them a false sense of fair play. If there is a flat tax established it should be done under the current scheme of income tax IMO. |

Yep... me too. Flat 10% tax across the board, NO deductions except for maybe below poverty line, but then everything above that is taxed at the flat rate. I also believe that there could be some use for a "special tax" that could be another 5% in times of "crisis" or as a special "needs" tax... |

agreed. I've been meaning to read Steve Forbes' book. I heard him speak briefly in college and the guy is very smart. People were trying to stump him and he just manhandled them, in a nice way. |

National Sales Tax is the way to go. The federal tax code is so bloated, no one understands it. Not to mention the country did not even have an income tax until WW1. |
