Q's about Sentinel

Do you recommend using Sentinel on all phpnuke sites?

I understand it stops people from hacking into your site by banning IP addresses. I am new to phpnuke so what exactly does it do? I just installed it on my site, but I am a little overwhelmed by the settings. How do I know it is working without getting myself banned from my own site? lol

You have many options with NukeSentinel. You can opt to just get an email, or email and ban, etc. We highly recommend you use it on ALL nuke sites. It has been proven over and over again. It is, by nuke community concensus, the best protection for nuke sites. And the support team is awsome Laughing

To test whether it is working, you could set the configuration up to email and use the default screen, but not write the IP to .htaccess. If you have set your admin id to Protected, it won't get written to the MySQL table.

When I go to add an IP via the feature in my CP, it doesn't seem to appear on the list. I received an email about someone, and now I would like to add their IP to the blocked list. It wasn't on automatic block before.

I wonder if I should try the FAQ question "I have .htaccess listed in the .htaccess path, but the IP's are not getting added to the file. What can I do to make them write to the .htaccess file?". I will try that later and see if it works.

I also have four ip addresses with all but the last two or three digits the same.
That's kinda odd isn't it? The whois look up says they are all proxy.aol.com.
