Need super admin status to run nsnst.php?

Hi,

I got hacked and Sentinal seems to be the recommended solution to prevent it from happening again. I am running phpNuke 7.4 on a 2xG4 OS10.3.7 Mac. I have downloaded Sentinal 2.1.1 and have been bumbling through the install instructions to the point where I am supposed to run nsnst.php. I pointed my browser at it, but got the message "ONLY super admins can run this script." I am the one and only admin on this amateur site. I don't know how to communicate through the browser that I am a "super admin", nor do I know how to become one if I am not.

Any suggestions?

By the way, Sentinal looks like a wonderful contribution to the community and I express my gratitude for your work!

hi,

sentinel reached the 2.1.3 so better get the newer version...
as for the error and install...
usualy you should go to http://www.yoursite.com/nsnst.php
if that shows the same error theres something wrong...
then just come back....

Well, there's a little more to it...

First, go to http://www.yoursite.admin.php

Login as Admin (if necessary.. you may already be logged on from a previous session. If after going to the admin URL and the admin gfx load up, then you're already logged in. If you see the Admin login, login.)

From the Admin gfx page, type in the address bar:
http://www.yoursite.com/nsnst.php and choose your installation preference from the drop-down menu.

Hi,

Thank you both for your interest and help. I did get the nsnst.php script to run with PHrEEk's directions. When the install was complete, I followed a link on the page generated by the install to a sentinel admin page of some kind, but the page came up completely blank. I obviously need a manual, but the one linked to the sidebar navigation link at this site says it is for 2.1.0 or earlier. As far as I can see, there was no manual with the download. Where do I go to get instructions to actually activate and use Sentinel?

i know we all started somewhere to learn about nuke but as i understand you managed to install it now as you write... "I did get the nsnst.php script to run with PHrEEk's directions"..

Do you mean you tried to install it when you werent logged in as admin ?
well nice try ...
But i thought that anyone who runs a site on phpnuke atleast knows that for install stuff you must be logged in as admin.
as for the manual,just use the one on the left .....
as for the configuration for sentinel.....and a blank page you get ?

Hi,

I thought I was following the install instructions, but I didn't take them quite literally enough and didn't realize that I was not logged in. In any case, nsnst.php did run and blurted out a long series of messages about tables that it had successfully created. So far, so good. But it did then send me, via a link, to a blank page. And, http://www.yoursite.com/admin.php?op=ABMain also sends me to a blank page. No complaint about not finding the page, just a perfectly blank page. Since I am operating almost completely blindly in this installation, I don't know what even to expect. Anyway, I am getting just a blank page.

I wonder if I have actually loaded all of the new pieces of NukeSentinel into the right places. On my site (a Mac), the site resides in a /users/myname/Sites directory called "mysite". From there one goes to mysite/html/admin.php to begin an admin session. There is also a mysite/html/admin directory. When I downloaded the new NukeSentinel files, there was an admin folder that I understood was to be moved in toto to /mysite/admin. It is now sitting there alongside a new /mysite/abuse directory. Are these in the right place, or have I misunderstood again...and can this explain the blank page?

Like I said...I am an amateur at this.

well the sentinel folder comes with an admin part...
a file for case,links,and modules folder.
the folder ABUSE goes in the root of nuke.

Yes, I can see the case, links, and modules folder. In particular, the modules folder contains sentinel.php and also a folder with a ton of AB files, including the ABMain.php that throws up the blank page. But where should the new case, links, and modules folders reside? I can't replace the existing case, links, and modules folders that belong to Nuke itself because Nuke's versions of those files contain much more than sentinel.php, etc.

And, when you refer to "root of nuke" do you mean what I called "mysite" in my previous post? I understand it to mean the topmost directory for all of the php-Nuke and Sentinel subdirectories that constitute this instance of my site.

I apologize for being so dense.

Mason,

You need to re-read through the install docs again, and pay attention to Section 3: Installation, which tells you which files get uploaded and where.

You either have two types of uploads; folders or files by themselves.
If the folder in the archive also exists in the same place in Nuke, then you don't upload that folder, you upload the files within that folder into the existing folder in Nuke. The folders in the archive are solely there to show you the correct structure once you're done.

A folder like /modules/Blocked_IPs doesn't exist in your install (or at least it shouldn't unless you're upgrading a previous install of Sentinel). In that case, of course you're going to upload that entire folder and all contained files.

Let's walk you through it...

Ok, this is from the Sentinel 2.12 pack, but it should be similar enough that you get the picture.

Folders that do not exist in Nuke by default are:
root/abuse
root/admin/modules/sentinel
root/modules/Blocked_IPs
root/modules/Blocked_Ranges
root/modules/Blocked_Referers
root/language/sentinel
root/images/sentinel

Upload all of those folders and any files contained in them to their respective places above. Take it slow and verify each folder and file within as they go up. Once you are satisfied there, go on to the next step:

Folders that do exist by default in Nuke, and need files added to them:
root/admin/case/case.sentinel.php
root/admin/links/links.sentinel.php
root/admin/modules/sentinel.php
root/blocks/block-Hacker_Beware2.php
root/blocks/block-Hacker_Beware.php
root/blocks/block-ScrollingSentinel.php
root/blocks/block-Sentinel.php
root/images/admin/sentinel.png
root/includes/overlib.js
root/includes/overlib_hideform.js
root/includes/sentinel.php

And there you have it... shouldn't get a blank page...

Hi PHrEEk,

Yes, that does it. The confusion was my misinterpretation of what was "root". I was taking my site name which is one level above the directory called "html" that is supposed to be "root" in the installation instructions.
