Greets:

I've discovered another PHPNuke site, http://www.phpnuke-downloads.ro (Other wise listed as http://fnet.ro), directly linking to files that I've made available on my website. What bothers me greatly in this case is they swipped the text from a post I made on PHPNuke sites about the avatar zip file, removed the links to my website and to the Alien Assault Traders game, and, from how the post reads now, make it sound like they are offering the file themselves.

I'm deeply troubled by this as, while it isn't my work to begin with, it was created by someone on the Alien Assault Traders game site and I feel that it's important to at the very least provide a link to them. Also, I was raised to understand that deeplinking into another site is a no-no.

This makes the 5th time I've banned a site for doing this. The first four, they just dropped the file descriptions and links into their download offerings. This time, they passed it off as their own.

What also bothers me is that it seems to be acceptable among the PHPNuke community? Is it? Rather rude if you ask me....

Thanks,
-drmike

(None of this is directed at Raven of course. The links lised here are ones that I provided. Just blowing off some steam.)

Thanks for the response.

Maybe community was a bad word to choose in there. Maybe 'group' would have been better.

I don't mind people doing links to my site or what I have to offer. (I'd be a nut if I did) It just bothers me what this person (and all the others) did.

And from looking around, it looks like it maybe acceptable. I see all these "PHPNuke Download" sites that advertise hundreds, if not thousands, of downloadables for PHPNuke. Even your sig, hitwalker, does. When you add a download, do you just place the file into the download record? Do you drop your visitor of the host's download page? Do you just host the file yourself? Do you provide a link to the site offering the download?

Just rather strange how some people act on the web.

No not realy...
i select the files i want to put in the downloads.
Not everything is added cause there's a lot of trash out there.
So in fact im helping a little bit by selecting, and if they get a trashy file somewhere else and install it ,ythey end up on some forum for help to solve it again...
Thats how the circle goes....
As for a link to the authors....
Just a few get the website or name added to it...as extra...
But its also that the authors have enough text about themselfs and links their site in the readme file.
Most times people visit it afterwards,...or not...

People who make things need webmasters to spread their stuff,so it works both ways.
Im just a services and resource site, thats all..
Almost on the 1500 clean scripts but its more like 3000 cause a lot of them are packed...so stored files are now about 1GB.
