I am wondering if there's an alternative to the downloads module. I want to be able to upload documents/downloadable files without having to go in and put them in thru cpanel first. I can't do this with the downloads module because it requires a URL for the document.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Caution is recommended when allowing anyone else to upload to your server.

That said, have you looked at any of the upload modules / tweaks? Just do a search for upload in the downloads section here or at phpnukefiles.com.

Thanks, Xiode. Does it allow users to upload a file or only to specify a URL to the file?

I see on NukeStyles.com that upload is available in 2.1. Is it in 1.7?

Loaded 1.7 on a test server. It does not appear to allow uploads as the commercial version 2.1 does.

I use NSN GR Downloads which has you submitting a link the the resouce, but for a long time I used "My Uploads".

I really like "My Uploads" as you can define what uploads are permitted and all uploads go directly into a dedicated folder for each user.

It has a lot of control regarding what sizes are permitted, what types of files, etc... Administrators can also see every upload by every user.

You can find it at: http://www.gnaunited.com/downloads/
