The problem here is that I am trying to establish the difference between Real E-mail and Fake E-mail, features in the Registered users 'Personal Information'.

I realize that the Real e-mail address is where any messages sent from admin are sent to the user and it is used to forward their password, should they forget it.

I think this is also the e-mail address that is displayed in the Forums and users profile, unless the 'Always show my Email Address:' option is set to 'NO'...Am I correct?

I am, however, unable to work out where the e-mail address in the 'Fake Email' filed is used...Please can someone advise me of this...

(I did think the Fake E-mail would be the one used in the forums etc, but this does not appear to be so)

This is a follow up to my previous posting and is proving this matter to be a nightmare.

I have set up 3 computers:

The first PC IS logged in to my nuke website as a registered user account: USER 1

The second PC IS logged in to my nuke website as a registered user account: USER 2

The third PC is NOT logged in to my nuke website and is an ANONYMOUS user

On PC 1, in the Registered users 'Personal Information' page/panel, I have switched the 'Always show my Email Address' option (for USER 1) to 'NO' and this is the result when looking at the users profile at the module modules.php?name=Your_Account&op=userinfo&username=USERNAME (which is the URL you would go to when clicking on a users name via the User Info Block, for example):

On PC 2 the Real E-mail address IS NOT displayed.

On PC 3 the Real E-mail address IS NOT displayed, (and neither is the Fake Email address).

I then switched the 'Always show my Email Address' option on (PC 1, for USER 1) to 'YES' and this is the result when looking at the users profile at the module modules.php?name=Your_Account&op=userinfo&username=USERNAME (which is the URL you would go to when clicking on a users name via the User Info Block, for example):

On PC 2 the Real E-mail address IS displayed.

On PC 3 the Real E-mail address IS displayed.

So, this suggests that everything is working perfectly.

However, the situation is different when the above is done, but you are looking at the users profile on the PHPBB Forums.

On PC 1, in the registered users 'Personal Information' page/panel, I have switched the 'Always show my Email Address' option (for USER 1) to 'NO' and this is the result when looking at the users profile on the PHPBB Forums:

On PC 2 the Real E-mail address IS displayed.

On PC 3 the Real E-mail address NOT displayed, (and neither is the Fake Email address).

I then switched the 'Always show my Email Address' option on (PC 1, for USER 1) to 'YES' and this is the result when looking at the users profile on the PHPBB Forums:

On PC 2 the Real E-mail address IS displayed.

On PC 3 the Real E-mail address IS displayed.

So, (apologies for the protractile, nonetheless thorough research above), but to confirm, in a nut shell, the 'Always show my Email Address' option does not work when viewing a users profile via the PHPBB Forums.

I would also like to point out that the above had to be done so thoroughly, because an added cookie issue, 9where I think, the PC remembers your cookie even when you log out), made proving this with a single PC a nightmare.

Now over to the tech experts...Can someone please provide a solution to this problem?

The biggests problem is that the "Fake Email Address" is a Nuke not phpBB field. The Fake is used in comments posts, userinfo page and other sections. Here's where it gets really tricky, whith each new release of Nuke the line moves a little as many new modules or functions he adds does not repect the "NO" command setting in yoru user profile.

So Bob,

Following on from what I have discovered in my 'research', (above), when a registered user sets the 'Always show my Email Address:' filed in their 'Personal Information' page/panel to 'NO', other registered users using the PHPBB Forum can still view the persons e-mail details.

So how do we prevent this?

We beg ChatServ to make a patch and include it in his next release Smile

Bob,

Is it only the Fake E-mail that appears in Posts and the Real E-mail that appears with the registered users profiles?

Like I said over time mr. burzi has messed up which is displayed. Your Account shuold display the fake email unless the user has opted to allow their real email to be seen.
