Hello, I recently installed php-nuke 7.6 on my webserver but ran into a few problems. The email activation doesn't work for some reason. I set the smtp server in the php.ini file but I get an error about authentication required. Now I found this strange because I have a standalone phpbb forum working, with email activation, and it works fine with the settings placed in the forum configuration section. It just won't work with my php-nuke site.

Then my friend came by and installed it on his webserver-enabled laptop using all my info and the email activation worked perfectly for him. So, i tried version 7.7, still not working. Eventually I just gave up on it because it doesn't make sense to me.

I found the automatic user registration download on this site and I installed it (backed up my index.php file in Your_Account folder and replaced the FinishNewUser function). Now the activation seems to work, it doesn't send an email and I don't get any errors. But the user is not inserted into the database.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for any help!

My autoactivation hack has not been tested under v7.6 so that could be your problem there. Check your server error_log to see if any errors are being recorded.

So I guess something is missing. Should I Install v7.5 instead?

Search Google for error] an unknown filter was not added: PHP and see if any of the responses apply. That error looks like an installation error of somekind.

Yeah you are right, tho I have no idea what installation error it is. It started in May according to the logs, which was when I started a new site. That site has a phpbb forum and all pages are php. But, I have another site that is totally php and mysql-database driven (phpbb also) that has been there for a couple years and there are no errors for that one until May also. So it's definitely a php.ini error. I never noticed it before cause everything seemed to be working properly for me.

So all I can see is that I changed something in my php.ini file when i created the site in May, but, it all works fine, so I don't know what it is. I will do some checking to see if I can figure out what is wrong although I am not entirely sure that is my problem with the autoactivation hack. Cause this error doesn't effect anything else. I may try v7.5 just to see if that works and narrow down where my problem rests.

Well, I solved one problem. I remembered when I set up the site in May I had trouble with a screenshot upload program and changed some settings in my httpd.conf file. So I went and check and sure enough the settings were still there, I don't use that particular screenshot program anymore so I deleted the section and now the error is gone from the error logs Smile

I will try the autoactivation hack again and if it don't work I will go to v7.5 and let you know how I make out, thanks for the help.

Sadly, it still doesn't work. I decided to try v7.5 and still the same result. I create a new user and it moves to the Final Step, I click finish and it brings up the login page. But no user is entered into the database. There are no errors in the apache log file.

If there was a way I could get smtp authentication working I could use the email option. I ran a php script that allows me to enter my smtp server, username and password and it worked fine sending email. My two standalone phpbb forums work fine with sending emails (I have the smpt server, username and password in the configuration section of the forum).

I set up this one up the same way in the forum but it always wants to use the php.ini settings. If I don't set the php.ini file I get an error saying I need to set it and if I do set it, I get an error asking for authentication.

Any suggestions?
