Just checked my logs. Here are the actual ranges of every Google bot that's ever been on my web site:
- 66.249.64.4 - 66.249.79.69
- 64.68.81.7 - 64.68.92.207

OK, I'm confused,
I've received two e-mails about people getting blocked from my site. eg:
Quote: | Date & Time: 2005-09-29 07:29:30 EDT GMT -0400
Blocked IP: 66.249.66.80
User ID: Anonymous (1)
Reason: Abuse-Script
--------------------
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Googlebot/2.1; +http://www.google.com/bot.html)
Query String: thestaffroom.spacemonkey.net.au/modules.php?name=Web_Links&l_op=ratelink&lid=9&ttitle=Teacher_Planet_(and_an_array_of_other_URLs)
Get String: thestaffroom.spacemonkey.net.au/modules.php?name=Web_Links&l_op=ratelink&lid=9&ttitle=Teacher_Planet_(and_an_array_of_other_URLs)
Post String: thestaffroom.spacemonkey.net.au/modules.php
Forwarded For: none
Client IP: none
Remote Address: 66.249.66.80
Remote Port: 38725
Request Method: GET |
The second one is obviously the google bot. However, when I go into the blocked ip range thing in NukeSentinel, there aren't any blocked ips.. Not in the blocked range either.. Could it be nuke itself that is doing the banning? It has an ip blocker too.. But I thought I'd have to enter those in. It should do it automatically..
What's going on??/ |

Also, Vindsl,
That second IP range you say is Google gives me a funny message when I try to add it to protected..
Quote: | 7.81.68.64: in 4.64.249.66 to 69.79.249.66 from
[ Go Back ] |
I checked that it was typed in properly.. |

OK, I just worked out that there must be a bug witht the version of sentinel I'm using.. Either that or I made some kind of boo boo installing it..
It appears that Sentinel is putting the "from" range that I enter in backwards.. For example, if I type "From" 64.68.81.7 amd "To" 64.68.92.207 it appears as "From" 7.81.68.64 and "To" 64.68.92.207..
I'm running sentinel 2.3.1.. I shall report the bug. But I guess I should see if it's a known bug first.. |

Wow, I won't even bother reporting that considering I'm running such an old version of the Sentinel..
I wonder how much effort it is to update sentinel.... |

well close to nothing....lol
just upload the new overwriting the old..or not..whatever you prefer...
or just delete old files first...
then update till you reach the top... |

Yes, I exclude Google bots from being banned, no matter how stupid they act. I've even had 'them' try to run exploits against my site (to no avail)...
I think it's a case of monkey-see, monkey-do -- like, script kiddies running exploits against my site with PR enabled. The bots see a new addy and run over to my site to check it out, you know, and *boom* they're banned.
Or, maybe the kiddies are using Google Search to launch exploits. Who knows?
Anyway, I exclude Google addies from being banned, regardless... |
