I just got home after being on curaçao for 2½ weeks. But while i was on the island i recieved many flashbacks including 1400 baud connections.
The newest commercial on the island "Get 128k internet for just 128,- Nafl per month" (around $60)
After some discussions someone offered me a job on the island so i probably go back in january to train and coach kids for World Championships in Sail Sports (Optimist, Splash, Sunfish and more)
But how could i ever leave my western habbits like internet and cheap beer for the sun and sea?
If you have good reasons i might be outtahere |

Nothing like a good dose of Reality to make one appreciate what he takes for granted! Hope the R&R was refreshing |

All depends on what you want to do, Cowboy!
There seems to be some sort of allure to throwing your life down the drain, and I cannot argue with that. I've worked my balls off, since I was 15 years old, and where has it gotten me? Money, Success, Fame, Glamour...
I make six figures a year, as an elected official in the Teamsters, negotiating multi-million dollar collective bargaining agreements (labor contracts) for ppl I wouldn't hire to sweep out my garage, and the only way I keep my sanity is by wrapping myself in the chaos of the PHP-Nuke community, amongst others.
I made my bed, and I'll sleep in it. There's some solace in helping others, even if it’s viewed as a psychological defect in some ppl's minds. I'm asked this all the time, "How much money do you make off that Internet horsesh!t?" My answer is always the same, "I'm not trying to make any money off the web. I've turned down money to admin sites. I've turned down free hosting. I've even turned down a (PHP-Nuke) book deal. I don't do this for the money -- I do it for the love of it!" Nobody understands...
The fact of the matter is, even if you have a 1200 baud connection (sorry, no such thing as 1400 baud) you can continue to do this if you want to, so you're not sh!tting anybody. If you don't want to do this any more, simply quit. You don't have to destroy your life in order to get out of the Nuke community. This isn't the Mafia... |

It might have been a 28.8 or 57.6 or who knows what - but the land line was only able to negotiate 1400 |

LoL! Yeah, I suppose...
Look, Cowboy, no insult intended, but I've been to the Dutch Antilles (Saint Martin - half Dutch - half French). It's a nice place to visit, but... Teaching brats 'Sail Sports' all day, then coming home to a '1400' baud connection? Why don't you just get a gun and shoot yourself?
It's quicker...  |

<off topic>
I wouldnt give up my cable modem for anything less - no matter what.
Even on my honeymoon I asked for it to be available in the hotel (which the wife said would mean the quickest mariage/divorce in the UK ) - so we compromised and cut the honeymoon to 3 days LOL |

Alas, when nothing else but broadband will do, enjoy the use of Telstar 14 satellite communications! Screw dialup! If that's all that is holding you back, get a dish and move!
Once you get that installed, maybe you can become the islands' new ISP!
