Very Simple Scrolling Text Block

Hi,

I have looked around so I know this is very very simple but I can't find the answer!

I am after a very simple scrolling block. I only want Admins to be able to enter text (it will be quotes that will build up over time for example). All scrolling blocks I have found are complex for forums, downloads etc. I want one that is simple to edit, i.e. well commented that does not need to 'SELECT' from SQL but could either use text within the php block code or an external text file.

The other thing is it needs to work cross browser (IE, Netscape, Firefox).

Any help appreciated...it must be easy!!!

Hi,
looks good and you have obviously done your work....but is it $8.50 for one script?

I was after something very simple and free. I do not mean the script is not worth it, just that I am after something even simpler!

well supporting programmers cant hurt...
but it sure is worth the money.
its veryyyyyy easyyyy to use and that for a few bucks.
And other blocks still have to be edited with a file,if its a text file or xml.

Just Google for scrolling text. There are so many out there. Why can't you just use the <marquee> tag?

Google search comes up with loads, but many links are broken or go to sales sites, advertising sites etc. The legitimate links are all to complex blocks that query existing PHP-Nuke SQL tables whilst I just want something simple. I do not know PHP well enough to edit out these blocks (unless you know an easy (free) one that's well commented)!

This HTML tag only works in IE and scrolls horizontally, I am after a block that scrolls vertically and works in Firefox, Netscape etc.

If you didnt want scrolling text but random text, the ready made 'random quotes' block which retrieves data from a text file could have done, or you could modify it.

Actually this is even better than what I found...thanks...I am now going to spend the next hour changing the code (i.e. breaking it)!

But.....can I scroll random text????

You are mistaken about the <marquee> tag. It works in FF, Mozilla, and most others.

This is a very old forum. I doubt you will find the block. What kind of info are you looking to have scroll in a block?

If you go to blocks admin, you can create a html block with the marquee tags by clicking on the source button on the editor and entering the code. It would look something like this:

Code:

<marquee direction="down" behavior="scroll" scrollamount="5" >Name1<br />Name2<br />Name3</marquee>

There are all kinds of online marquee generators that will customize your text and let you copy and paste the code. Just be sure to click the source button on the editor before you paste html code in the editor.

This Autoscroller don't use the marquee tag, works in all modern Browser (Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Internet Explorer) and it is full w3c compatible.
