My site is PNP and has been up for a while under that version. I am certain there are other Distro's that do more or are better equipped. 7.6 PNP is no longer found and not being supported so I am stuck.
My question is which distro will:
1. allow me to transfer my PNP7.6/PHPBB2 2.0.11 forum database over.
2. Has support forums for me to go ask install questions. (might sound silly but bet others have thought the same thing).
thank you for your time,

PNP is still being supported....sort of. The people at http://www.futurenuke.com/ are still working on it. I would HIGHLY recommend you do something ASAP though. The orginal version of PNP with 2.0.11 so easy to hack its sad.
If you would like to change we have made upgrade steps in the Evo package http://www.nuke-evolution.com which makes it pretty easy usually.
You can upgrade to Raven's nuke by following the directions someone posted on here in the past. But its not as easy as PNP->Evo. |

I have been looking at upgrading our site.
Issues involved
1/Difficulty..im not a good coder and have a heap of hacks, custom blocks mods...basically EVERYTHING is customised.
2/Support
3/How long will the versions considering upgrading to, be around
4/Time
I have come to the conclusion ..
1/ in the long term is not an issue to be considered
2/ 4/ Going have to live with that
3/ RN..the 'offical' team is new but these guys have worked together for yrs now, have history and the future is heading the same way.
The other alternatives, to me, dont seem to be as strong
So when I get time, I have decided to go the POSSIBLY the most difficult route with RN. |

Since I was the only one working on PNP, supporting it, upgrading it, securing it even when the orginal author wanted nothing to do with it, I think I know PNP better than just about anyone else. So when we started making Evo from scratch we made sure to have an upgrade from PNP be as easy as possible since that is where most of the base users were following us from.
It is easier as far as the core. Simply upload the files & upgrade folder and run the upgrade installer. That's it, the core is done. Plus it will do 7.6.0, 7.6.1, 7.6.0+1, & 7.6.0+2. 7.6.2-7.6.4 can be done with 3 minor DB changes.
1/Since I dont know your site, I have no idea. But as I stated before your core is an easy upgrade. Everything else will take some time no matter what you choose.
2/That is something that you have to personally decide for yourself. I am on our site almost everyday. We have a number of top notch people that help too. Plus a wiki full of helpful information.
3/We are at almost 10 months of product development and 8 months of public release. That is more than the 2.x of RN and in 2 more months we will have overtaken PNP.
Our next release should be out in the next few months and should blow away almost every other distro. We are already more secure and faster than anyone else (except for maybe CPG) but the next release is even faster and has some cool features which should blow away everyone else.
4/I have no idea what this one is refering too. I guess it means your personal time.
So I would not say we are not as strong as RN at all.
But the choice is yours to make. |
