Installing For a noob by a noob..

Thought I'd do my bit to help, So made this for all noobs by me(Pete)

Installing RN7.6 v2.x distro on a windows 2000 box.

Right first things fisrt I've been messing with HTML/PHP for about a month so like I said I'm a noob.

1. Read the MANUAL/INSTALL guide
There is all the info you need....

2. PHP 4 or 5?
I'm using PHP5 with no problems at all. Dont forget to alter the php.ini. In PHP5 you need to enable MySQL in order to use it.

3. Choice of web servers IIS or Apache?

Speaking as a person thats been trying with IIS(Nearly 3 weeks) for my nuke site all I'll say is use APACHE. I have no idea why it works better take it from me you will have no end of wierd problems with ISS.

4. Mysql 4/5

I've used Mysql5 for some time now with no problems, However I ended up going to version 4 due to the table problem when installing the tables via the INSTALL/installSQL.php.(There will be 2 or more errors at the botom of the page displayed, Also the popup box saying you've finished dosn't display)
As I've said I have tried numurous settings in Mysql 5 with no luck.. USE MYSQL4.

Apache download : Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login!

PHP download : Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login!

MySQL download : Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! While your there get Mysql Administrator.

RN7.6 Distro : Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login!

After installation download the PHP-NUKE how to Module it's very handy!!!

3rd party Themes right block fix, In you're theme's theme.php look for the line that says

Code:

if ($index == 1) {

and replace with

Code:

f (defined('INDEX_FILE')) {

Those that have problems with the FSKeditor read this : Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login!
It worked for me!

Remember most Q's have already been answered so use th SEARCH AT THE TOP!!!

Very nice, very nice.
I know PHP 5 isn't supported by phpBB group, but I seem to have phpNuke running fine on it. Unfortunately, some older scripts aren't running quite well on it, which means I'll probably end up downgrading to PHP 4 at some point.

Definitely run Apache. IIS is too much of a headache.

It was trying to go into /includes/includes/smtp.php

something so silly can make you proud Wink
