I am one of those getting multiple registrations from the same domains and wondered how I can block these from being able to register. I get about 50 users pending per hour. This started the other day.

I am running Nuke 7.6 and Sentinel 2.4.0

Any advice is appreciated.

Greetings good people

I am having serious issues with spammers all of a sudden. I made some recent changes which greatly increased my visibility and also has generate a rash of spammers registering.

I added @somedomain.com to the string blocker and tried to register and the registration went through. I also added it to referer menu and was still able to register. Most of these folks are coming out of the former soviet bock some from Afghanistan and a few from Poland. I am getting hundreds of these things every day.

I have already changed to admin approval for new registration so they can't get access. How do I stop them from registering? I have to go through and find the valid registrations and t is consuming a lot of time better spent doing other things. The good news is the spammers have demonstrated I am much more visible now that I was. I haven't had these issues until the last month or so.

I also am assuming that the high quantity indicates bota however GFX is enabled so I am not sure. Any thought?

The string blocker should work ... I had it working on my RN site for a long time. You need to make sure it is turned on. To fully test it you need to test from a computer that is not exempted from NS filtering but if you do that you should see the string blocker take hold. Also, you can look in IP tracking to see what's happening when a request with the string you are blocking is submitted.

You can also look at what's happening with the CAPTCHA in IP tracking.

Curious - are you using nukeSPAM or CA Honeypot?

You can also block domain registrations in the Your Account configuration. On an old Nuke site I support that was also getting pounded, I upgraded to RN 2.51, added nukeSPAM, and blocked the hotmail.com domain, which is where all the bot registrations were coming from.

I haven't upgraded to 2.51 yet. I am also not so sure the string block method is the best way to go. It works to well I locked myself out of my main site which I haven't done in years and my preference is to simply stop them from registering. I was keeping a list of the spamming domains in a private forum (love those private forums) When I tried to save the updated list it locked me out. LOL. I am off to DL 2.51
