Floppy Problems

A friend of mine is running into a problem accessing files on a floppy.

She is getting the 1122 Error:

A:\ is not accessible
No ID Address mark was found on the floppy disk

Any way to get the data off or is she pretty much screwed?

There are several disk recovery utilities, even some that are free. The ones that aren't free usually let you see what can be recovered and allow you to recover after getting a license.

Here's a free one, though I'm not sure if it works with floppies.

Nope this one won't work on Floppies.. But I will check on others later.

How important are the files? Meaning...for only 1.44MB of data, is it really worth the money?

In some situations it can be very important. This stuff for her had School and work items on it and she wanted to move it over to a jump drive and when she tried she ran into the errors.

Oh well. lol

well what i could find about this is that you should check your cable to the floppy drive...
its a very common error as it seems..
that doesnt mean it will solve it in your case..

Ok, then...

Just a shot in the dark here but what OS is she running?

Older versions of Windows like 9x do not check for the media descriptor byte. Newer versions like 2000/XP do check for it before a read.

See if she has access to an older 9x machine to access the files. If she does, pull the files off and reformat the floppy with a FULL format. Not a quick one. Copy the files back on and they should be readable now on her machine.

If that doesn't work, I'd say she is hosed. This is a formatting flaw with some vendors on an older batch of floppies.
