Osiyo Deseroka,

Love your site! I had one something like that about four years ago.
I'm half Cherokee and I have a lot of the stories told by the People.
Need a story teller? Laughing

Halito Deseroka, Chim Achukma? Chahta iskitini anumpuli li.

Margie's grandmother was 100% Choctaw. My grandpa was raised with the Choctaw indians in Oklahoma. He died in 1970 and taught me how to count to 10 in Choctaw. I remember he told ma the Choctaw word for happiness was the longest word in their language but I can't remember what it was. The picture above - it is beautiful, is it not? The Choctaw were originally from Mississippi as I understand it and there is still a major reservation there. Where were the Lakota from? is there history between the 2 Nations?

Raven, I am not sure of the relationship between Choctaw and Lakota.
I am Shawnee, but I have many members and brothers and sisters who are Lakota.
Aki, who does much of my jewelry etc is Lakota and like a brother to me. The Lakota, Nakota, Dakota Sioux are in the badlands, the Dakotas some in Canada. The Sioux got the worst rap of all, and are still getting beat up today.
The two poorest rez's and perhaps counties in the US are inhabited by the Sioux. That would be Pine Ridge and Rosebud.
Aki ( Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login!) is presently selling a handmade drum to benefit Pine Ridge. You can read more about that Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login!.
If you go over and post how to count to 10 in Choctaw, you will receive additional ring kissing I can assure you. Heck, they may just give you another new ring. You know how we like shiny stuff. Rolling Eyes

I'm sorry Embarassed - I thought you had told me you were Lakota. I'll go back to my nest now.

Don't be sorry. Believe me, I have been called worse than Lakota, and in fact consider it an honor..........

I've already posted this to your site Deseroka, but I thought Raven might like to read this. Laughing

This is the story "The Origin of Light" as it is told by the Alaskan Inuit.

In the early times, there was only darkness in the world; there was no light at all. At the edge of the sea a young woman lived with her father. Once she went out to get some water. As she was scraping the snow, she saw a feather floating toward her. Her mouth was opened and the feather floated in and she swallowed it. From that time she became pregnant.

Then she had the baby. It's mouth was a raven's bill. The young woman tried hard to find toys for her baby. In her father's house was a bladder hanging on the wall that was blown up. This belonged to the young woman's father. Now the baby, whose name was tulugaak (meaning "Raven"), pointed at it and cried for it. The young woman did not want to give it to him but he cried and cried. At last she gave in and took the bladder down from the wall and let the baby play with it. But in playing with it, he broke it. Immediately, it began to give light. Now there was light in the world, and darkness, too.

When the young woman's father came home, he scolded his daughter for taking the bladder down from the wall and giving it to the baby. And when it was light, tulugaak (Raven) had disappeared.
