I just installed Nuke Sentinel, but I have not been able to get CGIAuth to work correctly, even with Administrator's help from Raven Nuke. CGIAuth is the only option it gives me, so I want to know if Sentinel will still work without using .staccess and .htaccess and what not. Will it still help protect my site?

It will work fine mainvent. CGIauth is added protection on top of NukeSentinel.

CGIAuth uses .htaccess and a password file like .staccess. See Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! for more info.

If it helps, you are not the only one who has problems following the instructions for getting CGIAuth to work. Since I run a couple of test sites I've done it dozens of times and fouled it up ... well probably double digits for that. As you go thru the instructions, behind the scenes Raven is creating an encrypted staccess file for you and doing other magic and because of the technical nature of what has to be done the instructions don't proceed in what SEEMS like a linear or intuitive fashion. SO YOU REALLY HAVE TO SLOW DOWN AND FOLLOW THEM LITERALLY which means some jumping around in the sequence of Sentinel screens and then coming back to complete what you started a couple of steps ago.

It also helps to have an FTP editor or CPANEL or something else open on your site so if you get yourself "locked out" you can delete or edit the htaccess and staccess and start over. There is a particular sequence of lines in htaccess that triggers the check against staccess and if those lines are uncommented while you don't have the appropriate encrypted line in staccess your browser will be locked out.

It works but don't try to outthink it, just follow the instructions literally.
