I have an angry user in college. I will not go into the nasty details, but here is my problem.
He is on a college campus with apparently a ton of ips. Although I have banned ranges and ranges. He persist.
What else can I do? I am really tired of cleaning up after him and would like him to disappear. |

Limit posting to registered users. Delete his user id. If he reregisters under a different ID, delete that. And, like Hitwalker says, call or email the campus. See if they have a spam coordinator in their computer services, it's probably an issue for them too and you might get a sympathetic ear there. |

Well although I didn't wanna do this, I guess its for the best. I have turned email activation back on for new accounts. Hopefully along with the email to the college campus this will slow him down or put a stop to it altogether. |

If you don't have other users from that same college, you may want to ban the entire college's subnet. This is probably against the college's IT policy too, so you should definitely report it |

A public Blacklist in your forum or a tempory ban is also a way.In the forums administration is an option to ban names emails etc...
In an actice community are several ways to handle this through community members believe me and donĀ“t forget you can change the forum rules too. |

I don't guess there is any harm in posting whois results.

Susann is correct, that is a bot from Yahoo called 'Slurp' you might need to look at your logs again as this IP would not be causing any spam to be posted on your forum.
If you look at the forum post the user made, you should see an icon with 'IP' in it, clicking that will show you the users IP address and any others he/she may have posted under.
(You will need to be a Forum or Moderator admin to see the icon) |

Yeah that was a mis-post on my part. Unfortunately for this guy he is all over the internet and with a little google research, I was able to find his myspace, college, real name, age, cell phone number(who puts their cell number on myspace?), and two email addresses.
So I was thinking, fight with fire with fire? Sign him up for every free ipod and vacation giveaway I can find?
JK, I did email the college and I did ban most of his ranges. I hope from one admin to another they can understand my distress with this person.
Thank You all for your help.
P.S. I un-banned slurp. |
