Sorry if this is in the wrong area, but, being a php noob I have read all the faq's etc and drawn a blank.

I have installed the ravennuke package 2.10.00 and I am trying to get the advanced forums block to work.

I have made a couple of forums and posted in them, but, when the text Last 20 Forum Messages scrolls up (front page block), there is no posts underneath of it.

This doesnt work with any theme, I have tried using another advanced forum block, but, this gives the same results. The only one that shows the posts, (but doesnt scoll) is the standard forum block?

(edit: The NukeSentinel scrolling block shows nothing either.)

Has anyone else got the same problem? Will the 2.10.01 update, fix this problem?

hoppyintheuk, the forums are just phpBB 2.0.22, so there really isn't anything that I can think of except that maybe you do not have the forums permissions set up properly. Do you have them set to anonymous read?

The NS scrolling block works different in IE and FF and it has something to do with your screen size. What do you mean with: "the scrolling block shows nothing" ? How many banned IPs do you have in the scrolling block ?

Susann, this is the forums blocks, however, I cannot recall what you and Raven found about which browser shows what and when. This may still be related.

I have checked all the permissions and don't see anything out of order. I also have another website running a phpnuke patched solution 3.3 and the scroller works on that site.

The site now running the raven 2.10.00 was running phpnuke patched 3.3 and the forums were scrolling, so its not an hosting issue.

The NukeSentinel box i.e This is the list of NukeSentinel™ banned IP addresses doesnt scroll either. I wonder if this is linked?

Don´t know your browser version but did you checked the NukeSentinel scrolling block with IE and Firefox ? Add some IPs into so that you have more than 5 and check the result again with Firefox.

Not working in IE6, IE7, Firefox, Avant Browser. ???

I'm convinced its a ravennuke problem now. Its the only thing left, stopping me migrating a couple of sites across.

Don't know if it is related, but we had to fix the ourscripts.net shout box; it stopped scrolling in RN2.10 also. It had some invalid CSS in a style attribute that for some reason XHMTL didn't like.

Hello all the scroller that I have used for years now works on my gaming site ok with the upgrade but it doesnt work on my seafihsing site. I have this feeling the tables didnt update right ? the forum scroller block I have at the moment doesnt scroll the posts so there is a break somewhere?
where is the connection from the scroller to the latest posts? which database tables would hold such information for the block? basically so I can just re-upload them etc.
cheers

Funny I was just about to ask about this issue too. Nothing Scrolls on my site anymore when browsing with Mozilla. However in IE it works fine. I think the problem started when I installed v2.10 although it could have been a mozilla update... I'm not sure??

We need to take these one at a time, because it could be anything...bad CSS, bad XHTML, a table issue, etc. So start throwing out module/block names. What exactly doesn't scroll?

Like i say I have two sites that had the same upgrade and both sites use the same blocks one site the forum latest post scroller works and the other doesnt so I think my problem could be database related?
the forum scroller I am using that works is on this site
www.online-gaming-forums.com
but like i say it doesnt work on my other phpnuke site that was at the same 7.6 latest patch nuke.
If I use the scroller that comes with raven uke it works fine but its nowhere as good as the one I have used for so long.

mrix, have you tried to compare the table structures of these two sites? mySQLDiff is an excellent tool for doing this. If you do not already have local copies of both of these sites on your PC, you might want to try installing XAMPP (believe me, it is painless to set up), and get these two databases local so that you can more easily compare them and test out "fixes".

It could still be file related if its possible that one of these sites is using the HTML 4.01 DTD vs. the XHTML 1.0 one. Some code will not work properly in Mozilla if its not valid XHTML using RN2.10.x. Do a view source on each site and check the top for the code between the HEAD tags and see if they are roughly the same - with the exception of your keywords and other META tags of course.

I have viewed the source of both pages and the head sections are identical.

www.online-gaming-forums.com
the problem is on the sea fishing site I`ll install the same block_Forum_Scroll so you can get an idea of whats happening.

mrix, I have taken a look at both sites, and the above post from Susann is actually crusial to this (I hope). When I look at the sea fishing site, there are no posts showing up in the Last 10 Forum block. Why is this? In order for Mozilla to scroll, we have found, that the content between the marquee tags has to be enough for it to start scrolling.

Why is there no forum posts showing up? If you solve that, and get enough content in there, I believe the scrolling should work. It is just one of those cross-browser incompatibilities (and the marquee tag is NOT compliant).

The thing is as I mentioned in one of my first posts I dont eh upgrade on two sites that were at the same patched level of phpnuke 7.6.
They also use the same scroller as you can see by clicking on the links.
one works one doesnt Question

mrix, I know this. You/we are missing each other here. It depends upon the DATA. It may not even be an issue with the scroll as I see NO posts in your block that is not "working".

I am wondering where the block scroller gets it data from ? hows does it connect to latest posts? I should imagine its a database table? which one?
is this limited to just a few tables or files ?
my site gets between 20 and 40 new posts a day.
Cheers

mrix, I see where you are going with this. The only thing that I can suggest, especially since you are using the exact same block file (right???) between these two sites, is to dump your nuke_bb* tables from both databases and compare the structures.

If you are getting that many posts per day in your forums, that block should be showing them unless they are all in private forums.

I think both you and hoppyintheuk have said that you have migrated to RN from an existing non-RN database, so I suspect the issue might be the phpBB forums are not at 2.0.22?? I just don't know what else to tell you. You have to find the table structure descrepancies i am thinking now.

I have the same problem. The Shoutbox does not scroll, 8.5.2. I use Firefox 2.x whatever is most current. The same happens with the Arcade scrolling box, it's dead on Firefox. In IE, the Arcade scroll block works but Shoutbox doesn't. I read somewhere you couldn't have some scroller code working twice on same page or same column. Would be really nice since I come from FutureNuke and the scolling Arcade and Shoutbox worked on that. If I were to guess it seems the problem is in Raven Nuke.

Perhaps it's Sentinnel blocking it or it's a code change in Raven causing it. If anyone can point me to a solution (because I want both scrolling blocks to scroll on both browsers) I'd really appreciate it. I think Raven Nuke is great but this problem bugs me.
