It not like it a lot for a dedicated server if you know where to look
I have a Celeron 1.7 - Ensim - 60GBHD - 1000 MB RAM with 1000 gb of bandwidth a month for 129 a month they have even better plans.
I run 2 gaming sites with almost a 3 gb file achiva. So nuke cops were not holding that many files, there were mostly pages viewed which was far less bandwidth use than a file achiva site and modding forum.
Paul just wants money for the name. If he cared about the community he let someone just take it over |

Best case someone who is concerned for the community like mitch gets it. Keeps it going or at least keep one public forum open. Charge a annual membership fee to access anything and everything else. Use that plus ad revenue to support the server. Maybe put out a few custom modules for members only heck even if was hired out via codelance or scriptlance what ever it is now. Something along that line anyway.
Honestly there is no reason that site can't pay its way. Also without the overhead of supporting another site like computercops it wouldn't take so much server to maintain. I'd think any dual processor machine with a gb of ram and a scsi hard drive would work out fine but WTF do I know.
Given the security issues involved in maintaining it I'd go for a firewall box in front for dayum sure.
Truth is since none of the bids are public the whole issues become something of a yawner. |
Yes, i personally think i'd be a good source to keep it going, but i seriously don't have $2,500 like you said he might sell it for, I understand it has all them members and stuff, i'm not really worried about losing them, Or even making any money, keeping it going is what i care about, but i don't have all that money to put out for that site. I hope whoever gets it has the stuff and green stuff to keep it going. I offered lower then $2,500 to him, some ppl sell there sites for $300,000 but i never dreamed that this site would go for around that. It's really a support site, that he made without that much money to keep it going. I do agree with everything you said, you would need a mighty powerful server. I'd like to help out whoever wins it, with anything i can do. But unless the highest bidder drops out, and i'm the next highest, then i won't win it |

Yup yup, I got some stuff off of it, lol Gotta race to get what you want before it goes down again, and you never know when it will be the last time it goes down and you never see it again.

This is sort of funny... nuke peeps from all over rushing to nukecops to get what they can every time ZX takes a "break" from his honeymoon... gotta recharge my batteries, honey, be right back! And for a time nukecops is up, til ZX is "up" again then nukecops is down. Actually I think this all has a lot to do with his new bride, maybe she gave him a choice- me or nukecops... and, not being a fool he chose her. "Sweetie, the domain expires this year but let me try to sell it..." |

Hey Raven, I am tired of NC always being jacked up with those d*** DOS attacks then the server over heating.
I will not be going to NC anymore this is my new nuke home for support. I will be posting here alot more now that NC is crap just llike FB's site(phpnuke.org) and I do agree with all those d*** pop up banners and crap.
I will be making 10-15 post a day here and will be looking to have the best post count and I will strive to give my nuke support.
P.S. I am on Ravens side. Me and him talk on the messengers and he is a awesome guy. I am hoping some day Raven you can help me make my own script. |

Hi Corky. I know what you are trying to say and I appreciate your support and patrionage. Just to make a clarification, there are no 'sides'. As I have said elsewhere, while Paul and I may have had our differences I am not happy nor gleeful over the loss of NC as a nuke resource. The ddos attacks that NC suffered are not your run of the mill ddos attacks. This was a well calculatd and well engineered attack. From what I have read he has suffered financially over this. And to top it off he's supposed to be enjoying his honeymoon. Anyway, I know you are young and growing in nuke and PHP. We will need to discuss the COPPA soon. In the meantime enjoy yourself. |

I got a good laugh when i read a Testimonials from Nukecops/Computercops host http://www.jaguarpc.com/
"My websites focus on computer security and content management development. Security is everyone's business and Computer Cops serves 4 million hits per month. Its needs are demanding: uptime, availability, responsive & engaging tech support, fast resolutions. JagPC ensures I get all these along with a great deal of personalization. The staff takes on a can-do attitude while delivering service above and beyond the call of duty to ensure ComputerCops.biz and NukeCops.com are up and running smoothly all the time."

In reply to what southern said about the content
Quote: | Ah but, jaded, I do know it's the content of nukecops that nuke peeps value, but I am not at all sure that any buyer will get the content along with the domain name. Is ZX going to compress the content into a neat .gz bundle and present it to the high bidder? Maybe put it on a few CDs? No, I think the domain name is what the buyer gets, period, and content would have to be put on from scratch. So I'd suggest people go there and save the forums in Wordpad on the assumption they'll go poof when they buy is final. Remember, forum posts are the property of the posters, not the site so how can nukecops sell the content of the forums? |
I would say that whomever buys the site will get the site not simply the domain. The information does not need to be zipped up and sent at all. All it takes is a server transfer to move the entire site to the new server. The people from nuke cops that i have spoken with are also under the impression that it will be the whole site that is taken over. The database material is what most people want to preserve. I wish that this was not neccessary. I personally enjoy nuke cops a great deal. It is in my opinion a great resource for the community. It is my hope that someone who intends to keep it going and perhaps improve it ends up the high bidder. |

Ah, my ambition exactly. Unhappily, Raven would have to be out of his mind to hire me so I'm in for a long wait. |

We can hope, jaded, which your name implies you don't about much. But just 'cause ZX sells nukecops doesn't mean he's out of bidness, what with a new wife and all he'll need the database, especially of advertisers, to start up again... I'd suggest peeps buy the domain names ZX.org, ZX.net, ZX.com, etc. One might make a pretty penny reselling it to ZX someday. |
