Well, I need to know what is or is not working as there are two pieces to this:

1) Are the links not getting shortened, or

2) Are the links shortened, but when you click on them, you get a 404 error, or

3) Something else?

By the way, if you truelly used root/.htacess that will not work. It needs to be:

root/.htaccess

There are two "c" in there.

We need to take each of these one at a time because I am not convinced with your brief replies, that we haven't miscommunicated.

Quote:

mod-rewrite on

I will take it by this that you mean you have the following line (uncommented) above all the other rewrite lines:

RewriteEngine On

Quote:

disabl_functions no value

I do not understand what you mean by "no value". The steps there from Raven should make it clear whether your host has mod_rewrite turned on or not (this is a host level configuration thing).

Did you try this?

Raven wrote:
Place this in .htaccess and see if you get the Forbidden screen
Code:
RewriteEngine On

RewriteRule ^.*$ - [F]

If you do, then mod_rewrite is working Smile

Just going to your site will cause the forbidden message to be displayed. If you do NOT get the forbidden, then you have to ask your host to activate the mod_rewrite module in Apache.

sry about that brief stuff, i will try to waffle more from now on. Razz

my host had .htaccess turned off , with a note about affecting web site performance, going to try it in 3 hours when it finaly kicks in.

did ravens and a few of the other Edits still nada. so it must be above thing thats stoping it. just to note my host updated the phpmyadmin and apache files on the servers recently.

just a quick Q , if its turned off , sentinel does /does`nt work ? with .htaccess
even though the file is three
.let you know if it fixes it.
