MySpace announced support for the OpenID identify platform today, joining AOL, Blogger, LiveJournal, Plaxo, WordPress and Yahoo. However, the company said it only plans to allow OpenIDs created via MySpace to access the service, and currently has no firm plans to allow users to login to the service with OpenIDs from other sources, though this could happen. Some see this one-sided acceptance as a land grab.

MySpace, along with eBay and Yahoo, is also participating in the Data Availability program, and Jim Benedetto, MySpace VP Technology, sees the two efforts (Data Availability and OpenID) merging with MySpace becoming a hub of identity.
