Hi all,
i have this weird problem and i would be much surprised to see a reply but this is my best chance.
I have some categories in the web_links module.
They are written in greek and show allright to the end user.
But when i am in the admin panel of web_links i see them as chinese letters.
If i edit one of them and write it in greek deleting the chinese letters once again it shows quite allright to the end user but they r stored in the db as chinese.
Now i dont understand why this problem exists.
I can continue on tolerating this fact but i am not happy to not know what it is going on.
In case you have any idea of what this might be i really BEG you to tell me.
Thx in advance ,
N. |

oh, my, that is odd. I don't have alot of experience in this area, but will give it a shot. Can you look in your database at these tables and tell me what the characterset / collation is set at?
My suspicion is it has something to do with that. |

I am not sure, then, what is going on. Unfortunately, I do not deal in multiple languages or any language other than English.
Is there someone else in the community that has any ideas???? |

Something that i noticed.
If in weblinks i have only a category lets say Greece the this category is with chinese characters in the weblinks/admin panel
(to the end user it is always ok.
If i make a subcatecory lets say athens so it becomes Greece/athens the greece is ok and only the athens is now with chinese leters.
Does notice this helps you ,what the problem might be.
(Have in mind that webhoster says that there is no problem with my database and greek letters)
Lately ,strange things happen to me and to my phpnuke affairs
Thx... |

When I get some time, I will try and re-create, but no guarantees. I will assume that you are an all-Greek language site and so that is what I'll try and replicate. |

Do you still have 'weird characters' when logged in as a user with their language preference setting as English?
Do the characters disappear if you change the main nuke language setting to English?
As Montego mentioned, it sounds like some sort of conflict with the database collation set and the language character encoding. |

@montego---> thanx mate
@guardian--->When logged in as an end user there is no problem. As i said end user sees everything right nomatter what phpnuke language setting is (of course you have to change the encoding of the browser accordingly). The problem is when editing weblinks fields as an admin. Also evrywhere else i have greek chars which as an admin i see them and edit the fields quite allright.
In general,i had no problems with phpnuke and greek chars (assuming i had the greek phpnuke languge files installed also).
I had to read very much around and so i learned somethings about collations utf e.t.c.
The database doesnt seem to have a problem relative to this problem. Also it was showing everything (including greek letters) correctly frond and back end until some days ago.
I had a greek guy which is d*** good with the collations and such to check the database -he actually noticed that the problem is when i have no subcategory in weblinks (the one i describe in my above post).
Unfortunatelly he didnt see any problem with the database.
He concluded that probably has something to do with phpnuke.Unfortunatelly he uses joomla so no help there from him.
So webhoster says that db is ok (collation e.t.c.)
The friend says the db is ok.
The problem arised the last days.
So if it is something i did with phpnuke -very possible since i tweak only the weblinks section and that is where i have the problem and only)
I tried to remember what i changed the last days.
Well i have changed the code a bit in a way that i can enter the same url multiple times.
I dont know though if this can affect in some way the db -i doubt that- but i tell you since you know better the phpnuke structure maybe that is what started the problem.
the change i made is discussed Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! for more info.
Also some other problem that arised too. In the field description i used to enter html code.So then ,the end user could see an html page in the place of that field.
Now , when i edit a weblink i have strange characters in that field . But i was not entering greek chars in that field ,just html code.
Maybe these notices help you to understand what the problem is.
Thx much,
N. |
