How much money is that for paul?
100 times 50 dollars = 5000 dollars
250 times 25 dollars = 6250 dollars
limitless times 10 dollars = A lot of money

I won't throw rocks at the idea of a "Premium" based product. (I hope Allovons getting his cut it was sposed to be his baby remember?).

Paul missed more opportunities like this in the past then any of us could imagine. In the beginning it was never about money until it began to cost money. He made several remarks later to the fact that this is what he wants to be doing and wouldn't it be great if we could all make a living ... which many of us thought was a great idea so we continued to give more and more of our time to NC freely. The funny thing is nothing came of it while I was there. In fact while AI, Chatserv, Raven and others including myself were there Paul most often was not. Clearly he took advantage of us all and let us build his site for him while he roostered around talking about things, great things like "TrackBack" which never amounted to anything (Oh wait we'll see something like it in a "Premium" version of Fortress). Letting other projects he started like "Journal" and "GT" go half done and basically in pieces. Both of which have been picked up by other sites now and he's PO'd about that too. Ok well DOH!

At one time I was lead to believe we'd (in his name of course) be opening a hosting company among other things. Where for our (NC staff) time and services we'd at the minimum recieve Premium hosting services in return for our time invested in running his support site. Those whose talents and contributions were greater could actually go on into the upper echelons and become actual shareholders.

After seeing that my role in all that would be somewhere in the work for hosting category I chose to leave the actual NC staff. Hey hosting was cheap in the current market at the time. I think I was paying something like $35 a year for 500mbs and unlimited domains and databases. Even as a novice my thought was my time per day = more then $35 a year.

Some of these folks support questions go way beyond simple installation and configuration. Sometimes it takes setting up a test site and working out the specifics just to answer what may appear to be a simple request. But hey its fun and joyous and usually if I can find the time I'll take on the occasional question from heck like that.

These are the sorts of things that have lead me from time to time question the direction of the NC site and its leadership. Don't let all the fluff fool ya folks there is more beneath the surface there then doing great things for the sake of helping others. Which is another topic ZX likes to mention how he's such a great volunteer and all. Geez lets not forget even volunteer firefighters and EMT's get paid. The volunteer phrase has more to do with funding and tax advantages then it does the actual members.

There is no natural conclusion to this comment. I hope people can take some knowledge from it. For myself there can be some closure through the disclosing of the facts, feelings and emotions involved beyond the wall of fluff being presented at NC.
