Yahoo is picking off my registration emails and marking them as spam.
Does anyone have any experience with this? What word or phrase might it be?
How did you rephrase it to get them past the yahoo filters?
Thanks,
Darrell |

I'll register for your site (assuming the one in your signature) with an email that uses a spam tool that gives detail reasons for why an email was treated as spam. It's not the same as Yahoo, but it might give some ideas... Unfortunately, I can't check it until later tonight, but I'll let you know what it finds. |

Yes, It is the site in my signature.
Thank you for doing this. I'm anxious to see what it says.
Currently it's the standard registration email that comes with 7.4 I havent tweaked that at all.
I've noticed that hardly none of my yahoo registrants ever complete the proccess.
I helped one person register by activating them manually. They could receive email from my server so I know that yahoo is accepting email from me. It's just not accepting the registration email.
I'd almost like to require only ISP email accounts, but.... *sigh*

I received the email, and it didn't score high enough to be treated as spam. I'll try with my Yahoo address to see if I can find out anything there. BTW, there is a tweak that allows you to use the phpBB invalid email address to prevent Yahoo or other domains (you define them) from registering for your PHP-Nuke site. If you are interested, search the forums here to find it. |

Yahoo did mark it as spam (doesn't explain why), and I changed it to not spam. This may allow future emails to get through. I don't have another Yahoo address, but you may wish to try (or have someone else try). Good luck... |

Still spam, I'm afraid. I sent a request to Yahoo support - we'll see if they reply. |

wow, thanks!
I did'nt expect that much help.. but I do appreciate it.
I'm thinking it's just one of the words or phrases that it dosent like. Because i can email folks on yahoo without being sent to their spam folders..... |

I have been fighting with this issue for a year. Yahoo, Hotmail/MSN and sometimes AOhell does it.
I would be very curious to find out the answer, too. |

I'm afraid its going to get worse before it gets better. I would seriously consider blocking all but ISP emails myself if it wasn't for all of the websites I register on to test
Yeah I would look real hard at the subject lines so many so called email virus scanners trigger on common subjects now its absolutely rediculious. |

Raven, you have two people waiting to finish registration. Look and see if either one of them are Yahoo or hotmail accounts. |

1 is, 1 isn't. I have people waiting often with all kinds of accounts. They're both from 12/29 |

Well, what I am thinking is some people don't have spam protection on or something. Not all my registration emails get blocked. Plenty of people register just fine with yahoo and such. |

I would think that if people couldn't register they would be contacting me. Isn't that how you find out? I just ran a scan and I have 694 Yahoo accounts and 1064 Hotmail. |

Well, I don't know to be honest. A lot of people register on a whim at my site. People register here because they need help with their site. A lot of people register at my site because they want to shoot the breeze among other things. |

I just registered at my site using my yahoo account and it worked just fine. I had spam protection on. Maybe a lot of people that come ot my site are too lazy to check their email or something. I just assumed that if they didn't finish their registration that means they didn't get the email. I know it has happened in the past with hotmail accounts. I'll go and try that now, I guess. |

Ok, just tried hotmail account. It worked just fine. Apparently many who try to register at my site just don't care enough to finish.
My feelings are hurt. |

On my site some yahoo accounts are NOT getting the email in some cases. I know because the same people try to subscribe several times in a row and don't get the email.
They change email accounts and they get them.
It's something to do with yahoo and the way they are configured.
Others get the email on yahoo just fine. Even people that don't get the activation email, I can still email them regular mail thru my server.
I'v conversed to yahoo people repeatedly that wanted to subscribe but did not get the email. Even after resending they don't get the email.
This is what leads me to believe there is some sort of spam filter in place that is blocking it. Hiding it, moving it, deleting it... or whatever yahoo does with their email..
In the end, it's not really our responsibility if you ask me.. It's theirs!
But if we can simplify the proccess by rewording the activation email we should...

TheosEleos,
you had said:

It's difficult to test for yourself. You most likely have emaild yourself in the past. You may be accepting emails because it's an address thats in your contacts list. I know I have a few test accounts here and there to pass stuff back and fourth as tests.
Perhaps since your conversing with contacts in your book, the emails are not evaluating as spam. But for people that have not conversed with you in the past it may still evaluate as spam.
Thee are also different levels of aggression that some of these outfits allow you to choose for the scans.
Low, medium, high... etc.
Some people don't accept any mail whatsoever unless they are already in the trusted list, or contacts list.
*shrugs*
In the end, it's their responsibility not ours.
I just thought maybe I could ease the proccess a little bit.

Yahoo responded with a stock response about marking it as not spam. I forwarded it to another address asking them to tell me why it was considered spam. |

Darrell, today was the first time I have ever used those email accounts. I had to activate them and everything.
Yahoo only has one setting for spam. You have to play $19.99/year if you want stronger spam portection. I doubt many people use that, although I could be wrong.
Hotmail has three settings and I left it on the default one. Most people who try to register at my site are probably between 16 - 25 years old and I don't see them messing with spam settings much. |
