Tween writes:Until yesterday, my wife and I ran a small "stop the war in Iraq" advocacy website which used PHP-Nuke as the frontend and NSN paypal suite for donations. This website was hosted by Hostnuke.com hosting. We have been with them nearly 2 years.
About a year ago I remember reading that Upstate Templates was being forced to drop phpnuke and we got scared and contacted Hostnuke to see what our status was since we also used phpnuke. We were informed that our current setup was fine and that was the end of it. I want to add that at least 2-3 times a week our website would be down due to server error (which I'm sure Hostnuke customers can confirm) and we were little by little being treated more and more rudely each time we submitted a "Site Down" ticket. Never once did they apologize or even admit it was down. Fine, you just deal with it and drive on.
At the end of January Hostnuke made a double billing to our credit card. We are on a fixed income and the extra charge ended up putting us 1 dollar over our limit which cost us another 30 dollars in bank fees. We were as of yesterday still trying to get answers from Hostnuke as to how this occured. We are decent people and were patiently waiting for their Support department to answer our ticket and as of last night we were still waiting. Long story short, we wake up this morning to our Domain being suspended and 2 MORE PAYMENTS TAKEN! The hostnuke support team sends an email that CITES PHPNUKE as a violation of their TOS and AUP and that I have 14 days to remove my files! Apache was turned off and to remain so.
As I write this my wife is at the bank attempting to have the last 4 payments reversed and I am taking legal action for unfair business practices. They never once informed me of any problems with my nuke setup or traffic and snuck in at 3:30 in the morning...took 2 credit card payments and dropped my site. Their attitude today is "tough, take us to court".
If you are a nuker and fooled into thinking that Hostnuke is Nuke friendly....BEWARE! My hope is that this story gets blogged in all my fellow nukers backends so the next person looking for a reputable host doesn't end up like me.
Note:This is the opinion of the writer and not necessarily this site. I hesitated about posting it but decided to go ahead. I have offered Hostnuke the opportunity to comment.
